Vans Hi-Standard Canada Series | Mt. Seymour
On Saturday February 4th Mt. Seymour was the venue for the first Canadian edition of the Vans Hi-Standard Series. The contest featured some pretty decent riders and consisted of an original big air format where riders were judged on individual style and no rotations over 720 were permitted. The sun was out and it was an amazing day to be up on the mountain! Below are a few frames I managed to shoot from the event…
Red Bull Supernatural | BC, Canada
This past weekend Baldface Lodge (located in BC, Canada) hosted the Red Bull Supernatural which was a contest designed by Travis Rice. The idea is to take snowboarding contests to the next level by creating a course that no one has ever seen before. The invitation-only event drew 18 elite riders, who fearlessly threw down on a 40-degree slope created exclusively for the competition. In the end the one and only Travis Rice ended up winning… Rice is becoming a household name in the world of snowboarding with his most recent movie The Art of Flight by Brain Farm Digital Cinema, which is worth checking out.

Orb Clothing | 2012 Winter Catalogue + Look Book
I recently worked with a talented crew of creative people at Global Collective Design Inc. They design and create the brands of Arson, and Orb Clothing. I was hired to photograph their outerwear for their 2012 Winter Catalogue and Look Book. It was a crazy few days of shooting but it all worked out in the end! A few shout out’s are in order… Creative Director Noel Fox, Catalogue Layout/Production Rebecca Dodgshon, Models Jen (Key Model Management), Kendall (Richard’s) and Jaclyn. It was also a pleasure working with the talented stylist Deanna Palkowski and amazing hair & makeup artist Tamar Ouziel!
Here are a few sneak peak shots from the catalogue…

Sarah Burke | Ski In Peace…
I have put together a small tribute gallery for Sarah Burke. I had the privilege of photographing her at the 2010 World Skiing Invitational Superpipe on Blackcomb during the TWSSF. I did not know her personally, but I can say that her energy and passion for the sport she loved was evident through my lens… Such a tragic loss. My heart goes out to her friends and family. Nick + Christine | Cancun Wedding
I was fortunate enough to photograph the wedding of Nick and Christine in Cancun, Mexico. It was a small wedding with only a few friends and family members, but it was action packed right from day one! We spent a week at The Royal Cancun and it was fantastic! The food was great and the service was even better. It was a unique experience and my first destination wedding that I have photographed. I also experimented with my underwater housing for my Canon G10 (point and shoot) and I was pleasantly surprised with the results… Scroll down to check out the slideshow from their BIG day!

I believe that you should love what you do. I believe that if you’re lucky enough to be passionate about something, you should follow your dreams and pursue that passion. I also believe that everyone is entitled to affordable art…
I am very fortunate to love what I do as a photographer; it is an incredible opportunity to express my creativity. I love what I do and I would love for you to experience my passion. My goal is to provide affordable art. I want people to enjoy something that has been created by a local artist, but at a reasonable price, and without breaking any bank accounts. That is why I am featuring a limited time offer: a framed and signed photographic print of your choice for only $50!
(Update | Holiday Promotion 1 for $50, 2 for $80 and 3 for $100)

Nike Chosen | Just Do It
Nike has decided to take on the action sports world and they have really done a great job with their Nike 6.0 brand which includes Surf, Snow, BMX, Moto, Wake and Ski. The lastest video Chosen has caught my attention in a BIG way! Not only is it a showcase of some of the worlds best action sports athletes, but it is also directed by Lance Acord of PARK PICTURES. Lance has created some incredible commercials and has inspired me to look into the world of video/motion… For all of you behind the scenes junkies, click here to check out the making of Nike Chosen.
PX3 Gold Medal!
I recently received an email with some exciting news about the PX3 contest I entered a few months ago…
The email said: Spencer Kovats of Canada was Awarded: Gold in category Press (Sports) for the entry entitled, “Skydivers”. The jury selected PX3 2011’s winners from thousands of photography entries from over 85 countries.
I was really surprised to find out I had won considering this was the first photography competition that I had entered! I’m not one to toot my own horn but in this case I really couldn’t resist! Below is the Gold medal and also my winning images.
